After an exclusive preview with the Förderkreis and a glittering opening on his 88th birthday on 16 June, the internationally highly esteemed painter, sculptor, photographer and poet Jim Dine received the Medal of Honour of the City of Göttingen on Sunday.
_____
“Jim Dine has rendered outstanding service to Göttingen in the field of culture over many years,” says the citation for the award. Not only has the pop artist worked regularly for decades in a studio in the Göttingen Art Quarter – as recently as 2021, out of a deep connection to his second adopted home, he gave the city and its citizens the spatial installation “The Flowering Sheets”, which has been accessible in the courtyard of the Kunsthaus ever since. As part of the celebrations, for which the city invited visitors to the rooms of the Kunsthaus and the current exhibition “Jim Dine. Storm of Memory”, Mayor Petra Broistedt presented the artist with the award.
