Hollywood’s stardom would be nothing without photographs. Even during the silent film era, the American film industry flooded its audience with dazzling portraits that already appeared “larger than life” due to the artificiality and elegance of the composition, lighting or retouching – and for which a term finally established itself around 1930 that still today stands for the splendor of the cinema: glamour.
Almost a century after her career began, Ruth Harriet Louise is now experiencing her first exhibition in a museum setting in Germany, almost exclusively with vintage prints.
