Timm Rautert:

»Otl Aicher / Rotis Font«

14 October 2022 – 8 January 2023

Otl Aicher, born in Ulm in 1922, was one of the most important designers of the 20th century and an influential figure in graphic design in the Federal Republic from the 1960s to the 1980s. 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of his birth.

This exhibition is dedicated to his international typographic success: the new typeface ROTIS, its typeface family and the seventeen typefaces in total. It is named after Aicher’s place of residence and work – a place from a different economic and political era: remote yet privileged, in deepest West Germany. All the pictures come from the archive of photographer Timm Rautert, who was connected to Aicher through joint projects and repeatedly visited Rotis between 1972 and Aicher’s accidental death in 1991.
