Emilija Škarnulytė

Multimedia-Installations & Skulptural Objects

____

From February 2024, Kunsthaus Göttingen presents the first comprehensive solo exhibition of the artist Emilija Škarnulytė (*1987 in Vilnius, Lithuania) in Germany. The focus of the presentation is on Škarnulytė’s latest video works, such as “t1/2” and “Rakhne”. Photographs and objects will also be on display in the installation developed especially for the Kunsthaus.

In her works, the artist poetically explores the effects of technological and scientific developments on the earth. In her films, she combines geological, archaeological and mythological themes and reflects on the state of our planet from the perspective of deep time: where do we come from, what will be left of us and what will the earth look like after us?

The starting points are places that were and are the scenes of historical political events or current scientific research. Instead of using human characters and a purely documentary style, the artist tells the story from the perspective of mythological or fictional figures and invites the audience to see the world through non-human eyes. With Škarnulytė’s poetic audiovisual productions, Kunsthaus Göttingen takes visitors on a meditative journey through our past, present and future.
