The show is curated and organized by Gerhard Steidl in cooperation with the Kunsthaus Göttingen. Jim Dine – Dog on the Forge is a collateral event of the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere, curated by Adriano Pedrosa. Jim Dine’s exhibition will open on Saturday, April 20, 2024 and run until July 21, 2024. “We are delighted to contribute to the Biennale di Venezia – the oldest and one of the most famous art exhibitions in the world. Especially since this year’s theme of the Biennale – “Foreigners Everywhere” – sends an important signal for exchange and understanding in the current times,” says the Managing Director of the Kunsthaus Göttingen, Dr. Dorle Meyer.
Jim Dine – Dog on the Forge presents 32 new works by the artist. Paintings, drawings, bronze and wood sculptures as well as an impressive outdoor installation with large-scale bronze sculptures. For the first time, the exhibition presents monumental and site-specific works that have been specially conceived for the Biennale. Paintings and sculptures that have never been shown before will be placed in a dialog with each other and with works of art from the 1980s to the present day. Curator Gerhard Steidl drew inspiration from Dine’s tireless travels between the United States and Europe, as well as his lifelong commitment to the concept of visual, cultural and linguistic hybridization. Installed in a 14th century palazzo on the Grand Canal, the ancient meets the contemporary in a palatial Venetian context, casting a reflective light on Jim Dine’s personal history and perspective.
