Veranstaltungsdetails

On the occasion of his 88th birthday, the Kunsthaus Göttingen is dedicating a comprehensive show of works to the artist Jim Dine (*1935) from June 17 to September 17, 2023.

Over the past six decades, the U.S. painter, draftsman, and sculptor has created an extremely multifaceted, multimedia oeuvre. With „Jim Dine. Storm of Memory – Sculptures, Drawings, Prints, Books & Poetry„, the Kunsthaus presents for the first time in Germany a wide-ranging survey show that brings together not only sculptures, drawings and prints, but also numerous books by the artist. In addition, the exhibition provides insight into the artist’s lyrical work and shows a selection of Dine’s poems.

Jim Dine’s life is, as he himself says, an extensive history of close observation with which he sheerly absorbs everything imaginary. He is not concerned with the external, but with the internal: by seeing the objects he uses for his work as a vocabulary of signs, he reflects on his own autobiography in an intense, relentless and critical way. His art incorporates his entire life experience in a constant evolution, encompassing printmaking, drawing, sculpture, painting and poetry, among others, of which you will gain a comprehensive overview in the exhibition tour. Discover together an imaginative world that allows a very personal approach, let yourself be inspired by this approach and possibly find new ways to review your own past and self.

This tour will be guided in English language and costs 7€. Students with Asta-Kulturticket can participate for free.
